CPR Opening the Airway

CPR

Every year over 500,000 people die of heart attacks within the United States. Sadly, the majority of these happen during the evening with family and friends nearby that do not know how to properly perform CPR. Within our CPR training videos you will learn and practice steps on how to properly give CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) to Adults, Children and Infants. CPR4Kids training videos are demonstrated by Federal Firefighters and certified EMT's and Medics. Within this section you will learn how to recognize and perform the following tasks on anyone in need of your assistance: How to recognize and ensure the scene is safe to protect yourself and the victim; how to check for responsiveness of the victim; how to activate the EMS system by contacting 9-1-1; how to prepare the victims chest for compressions; proper hand placement, depth and number of compressions recommended for the age of the victim; techniques to open the patients airway and recognize signs of breathing; proper breathing techniques and the rate at which to give them.

Choking

Everyone has an experience in which they have either been choking or have witnessed someone close to them choking. It can be a very scary experience for anyone to witness and it can be even more frightening to be the one to come to their aid. With CPR4Kids training modules on assisting a choking victim, you will successfully learn, demonstrate and gain the courage to recognize and assist Adults, Children and Infants who may be choking.
Choking
The process for assisting an Adult and Child are the same and include how to properly position yourself behind the victim. Once body position and proper arm placement is learned you will then learn techniques for following the victims rib cage for the proper placement of a fisted hand. You will learn how to use that fisted hand to quickly squeeze inward and upward forcing the object out. You will also learn what to do in the event your victim becomes unconscious while trying to remove the object, to include how to lower them to the floor and begin CPR while continuing to check if the object has cleared the airway. Assisting a choking infant is a little different. In this training video you will learn techniques on how to cradle the infant in your arms and be able to recognize if the object can be easily removed. If the object can't be removed safely you will learn how to safely give 5 chest compressions followed by 5 back blows to free the object. Again, you will also learn the proper procedures to perform in the event the infant becomes unconscious during this period to include starting CPR for infants.

Fire Prevention
Viewing and reviewing this module frequently is one of the most important things a family can do. The information you will learn in this training module will assist you in developing an Emergency Evacuation Plan to include escape routes, establishing a rally location and activation of the EMS system by calling 911, all of which are vitally important in assisting firefighter and EMS personal. You will review items to be kept in specific locations in the home such as whistles and flashlights. This module also discusses steps that should be taken in the event you have a multi-storied home. Being in a burning home can be very scary, especially for children, in this module we will discuss the importance of family communication. In the event you ever find yourself in a home that is on fire, you will learn the importance of never hiding and not being afraid of firefighters as they enter your home to assist. Smoke Alarms, Carbon Monoxide Detectors and Fire Extinguishers are all important fire prevention tools, proper installation, maintenance and replacement are discussed to assist you in being more prepared. You will also learn the importance and dangers of fire ignition sources such as matches, lighters, smoking and candles. And finally, this module discusses the importance of placement and storage of heating sources within the home.

AED

AED

Studies have shown that the survival rates of victims of witnessed cardiac arrest are as high as 90% when defibrillation is applied within the first minute of collapse. It is remarkable to think that so many lives can be saved with proper use of an AED coupled with proper CPR.

Within our AED module we will discuss important characteristics about what an AED is, how they work, where they can be located and most importantly, how to use one in the event you ever need to. You will learn the proper steps and procedures for ensuring the scene is safe and establishing if the victim is unresponsive. We will discuss the importance of activating the EMS system to include calling 9-1-1 and retrieving an AED. Steps for proper CPR again will be discussed to include how to turn on an AED, how to attach the electrode pads included with the AED and proper steps to clear the victim allowing the AED to analyze for a heart rhythm. Once we learn how to analyze the patient for a heart rhythm the AED will then state "Shock Advised" or "Continue CPR". You will learn the proper steps to follow for both of these and in continuing the process until EMS arrives to take over.
